Mohonk relies on donations, gifts, and annual fundraisers to keep our programs and mission alive, and we are a 501c3 tax-deductible organization. Newman’s Own was one of the first organizations Paul Newman contributed funds during the first year he created Newman’s Own. Paul lived in Westport, Connecticut for over sixty years, as Mohonk has since 1981.    Thank you, Paul.

We are the only non-profit organization that we know of where 100% of the donations we receive for children go directly to the children we serve. This includes financial donations as well as estate sale merchandise and items for children.

FINANCIAL DONATIONS

No financial donations are used to pay for staff, or any administrative costs at all. Every less than fifteen cents, for instance, provides transportation for a children in over twenty countries on Earth to get to school for one day. Donations paid $6,500 to purchase all of the supplies and materials to build a first-of-its-kind library for a secondary school in the Philippines. The teachers and students were the primary source of labor! On it goes. Every cent makes the world  a little better with every step and every smile.

DONATIONS OF MERCHANDISE FOR CHILDREN

Donations of merchandise for children has always been one of Mohonk’s special programs.  We ship bicycles, clothes, backpacks, sneakers, repaired computers, and more to children all over the world.

It IS amazing how many things we do not need any longer that poor families and children do! If you are interested, please see our CONTACT US page and sign up to receive information of our annual “collections” of specific items children need or just contact us anytime.

DONATIONS OF ESTATE SALE ITEMS

We also hold an annal tag sale with the next one scheduled for August 17, 2024, and continuing for the next two weekends.  We plan to begin an online auction hopefully in the fall or winter of 2024 (volunteer help please). The items donated have been diverse and extravagant from antique toasters, signed Andy Warhol prints, certified 600-year-old Chinese sculptures, fifty brand new American Standard toilets, household miscellany- ad infinitum and endless. Automobiles also have been donated. Mohonk started accepting automobiles 39 years ago and Cars for Kids contacted us for advice before they even began.  Our record was 69 automobiles in our backyard. The Planning and Zoning director came over and politely asked us to please “get rid of them. “ We did and now have a broker who takes our donated automobiles and boats. Nice. We once had, by far, the largest tag sale in Fairfield County covering up to two acres. Now, however, we limit it to about one-half acre either inside, outside or both.

FUNDRASING EVENTS

We raise funds every year by selling Christmas trees in memory of Brooks Singer, son of our founder. Brooks was 16 years of age and passed the evening he returned from helping an orphanage in Lima, Peru during the summer of 2003.

Twenty-five thousand dollars was raised by students to begin an annual scholarship in his name and to provide funding to bring students overseas to meet their peers in different countries as Brooks did. Since then, an annual Christmas tree fund raiser continues for the same purposes.

Financial donations are tax-deductible, and donations can be made to MOHONK ENF or just MENF.

Donations of merchandise can be made by calling us and setting up a drop-off date or we can pick items up if required. Generally, every Wednesday or Saturday is a designated time, but please let us know if you will be coming. To date we have a rough estimate that in our first 42 years we received no less than 40,000 items! Children were the direct beneficiaries of these donations.
